CaliLOVE

New Work by Amanda Lopez

Inspired by the Dia de Los Muertos (day of the dead) celebration, CaliLOVE Amanda Lopez’s latest body of work addresses more than the concept of death. Instead, Lopez’s portraits reveal and celebrate the preciousness of life.

Throughout the exhibition Lopez’s work addresses the vastness of human experience and individuality. Viewers are called to witness the unique reactions and idiosyncrasies comprising the process of living as well as each individual’s way of coping with the uncertainty of life in the face of death. Within each photograph, CaliLOVE aims to capture this juncture between life, death and the everyday choices that define who we are and where we are headed.

• Sammie-nominated AUTUMN SKY (Sacramento) is bringing good vibes our way with her incredible voice and bright folk-pop guitar songs. She has the most glorious stage energy and is pretty hip all around. Come meet this awesome gal.

• MEREDITH AXELROD (San Francisco) has her warm, bluesy act all polished and ready for us. With that comes a vaudevillian sound typified by Meredith’s striking Bessie Smith voice. Catch her here in town before she takes off to tour Australia!

Davis Comedy Jam

Date: Thursday, February 11
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Art Annex

Entertainment Council and Comedy and Consciousness presents:

——–DAVIS COMEDY JAM!!!!———

Come join us for a night of LAUGHS and FUN!!

FREE Event

Doors: 6pm

Show:7pm

FREE Event

There will be 3 hilarious comedians coming to UC Davis on FEBRUARY 11TH!!!!

What’s great about these comedians is that they perform comedy around social justice themes so this will be a night of laughing and thinking about conscious issues.

MARK YOUR CALENDERS BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS EVENT!!!

The Davis Comedy Jam will be showcasing:

***W. Kamau Bell***

“Seldom do homegrown comedians have as much personal magnetism or shrewd observations as W. Kamau Bell, who is best known for his ever-evolving one-man show, The W. Kamau Bell Curve. Bell has busied himself with an ongoing critique of race politics, integration, sanctimoniousness, silent hypocrisy, and glaring inequity in the so-called Obama Age. Bell constantly recobbles his material to stay on top of the news cycle, so it’s a different show from month to month.” (http://www.wkamaubell.com/)

***Hari Kondabolu***

“As a child growing up in Queens, NY, Hari Kondabolu was regularly told by his mother to sign his name “Hari K. Kondabolu” to avoid any confusion with other potential Hari Kondabolus. Looking back on this now, he has drawn two conclusions: 1) It is outrageously unlikely that he will ever meet another Hari Kondabolu, especially in the United States. 2) In the event that he did meet another Hari Kondabolu, his mother apparently lacked any confidence that it would be her son who would be the better known of the two, thereby forcing the imposter to keep a middle initial. This instilling and reinforcement of inferiority provided the impetus necessary for Hari to take up the art of stand-up comedy and become the most famous Hari Kondabolu in the World…arguably.”(http://www.harithecomic.com/)

***Janine Brito***

“Janine Brito is based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, but has a lot of open mic sets from the St. Louis Funnybone in St. Louis, MO. Curious!” (http://www.rooftopcomedy.com/comics/JanineBrito)

Sponsors for this event are:
