We have a large collection of Playboy magazines from 1989 through 1996 and 2004 through 2009. Some editions from a few years may be missing, but the span of years is 1989 – 1996 and then 2004 – 2009. The older years are the ones that may have some editions missing. Most are in great condition, a few have some yellowing on the inside pages and some bent pages. There are many special editions in this collection such as the 40th Anniversary Special ~ as well as a variety of famous centerfolds like Bo Derek, Nancy Sinatra, Farrah Fawcett, Sharon Stone, Drew Barrymore, Patti Davis (Ronald Reagan’s daughter) ~ and infamous Playboy icons like Shannon Tweed, Anna Nicole, Carmen Electra, Jenny Mc Carthy, Cindy Margolis (her first time posing nude), the Barbi Twins, Kim Kardashian, Pam Anderson, and many more. There are also 14 additonal Playboy inserts that came with the magazines that include editions such as College Girls, Bikini Babes, etc.

Having a hard time finding anything to laugh about these days? We’re here to help, with our own humor stimulus plan! – stimulating the nation’s funny bone since 1991… With the Humor Times, you can stop crying about the news, and laugh about it!

The Humor Times (formerly the Comic Press News) is the world’s funniest political humor magazine, based in Sacramento, but available worldwide by subscription, both in hard copy or online.

Check out a FREE Preview here of a back issue in “flip page” format — look through the magazine in digital form, with the look & feel of the real hard-copy publication!

Get a buck off a Three-month Trial Subscription when you use “CraigsHT” as the discount code (3 issues for $4.95, regularly $5.95, to anywhere in the U.S.) when you order online at http://www.humortimes.com. Or get a full one-year (12 issues) subscription for only $17.95, or the downloadable PDF / Flip Page version for merely $9.95/year!

The Humor Times / Comic Press News used to be distributed free in the Sacramento area, but since January 2008, it is only available by subscription, or at certain locations for $3.00 a copy (such as at Newsbeat, with locations in Sacramento and Davis; Big Brother Comics, 1722 J St. Sacramento; Book Collector, 1008 24th St., Sacramento; World’s Best Comics, 2608 Watt Ave. Sacramento; Bizarro World, 706 5th St., Davis). When you subscribe with this offer, it’s only $1.41/month, and you won’t miss a single hilarious issue! Heck, you probably spend more than that at parking meters each month (and this is much more fun!).

Many people ask us: Why did you end the free edition?
Answer: It was either switch to a paid circulation, or go out of business – due to declining ad revenue, which, in turn, was due to the downturn in the economy. (More info.)

However, the good news is that the subscription edition contains a lot of great new features that the free version did not have, including a hilarious “fake news” section and much more!

Laugh all year – with the brilliant, incisive wit and political satire of the Humor Times!

P.S. Back issues of the Humor Times and Comic Press News are available. Most are $3.00 each, except for rare issues. The collection goes all the way back to 1991, and reviewing the old issues is a great way to relive recent history.

Wishing On The Moon – The Life and Times of Billie Holiday – Hardback

Synopsis

A biography of Billie Holiday.

Size

Height: 8.3 in.

Width: 5.5 in.

Thickness: 1.0 in.

Weight: 15.2 oz.

Publisher’s Note

Using interviews conducted in the 1970s with those who knew Holiday in all stages of her short, tragic life, Clarke chronicles her life, from her childhood in the good-time houses of Baltimore through early years of fame to her tragic death at age 44. Photos.

Born Elinore Harris in Philadelphia, jazz and blues singer Billie Holiday (1915-59) was abandoned by her itinerant musician father, then by her stepfather, and got little sense of self-esteem from her exploitive mother. Holiday became a prostitute, and later, while achieving cult status in Harlem, a heroin addict. In Clarke’s remarkably insightful biography, a joy to read, the singer emerges as a vulnerable woman who had unrewarding affairs with unsuitable men out of her fear of deeper love. Nevertheless, writes Clarke, editor of The Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music , she was a charismatic interpretive artist touched with grace, who fought entrenched racism in the music industry. This marvelously evocative portrait places her performances firmly in the African American subculture from which they sprang. Clarke includes testimonies from Holiday’s close associates, whom the late Linda Kuehl interviewed in 1970-72 for a never-completed biography. Crammed with jazz history and lore and sketches of legendary musicians, this biography will have great appeal for Holiday fans and jazz followers. Photos.

Industry reviews

“[Clarke] has written what may be the most thorough and valuable of the many books on Holiday.”
